1024 Architecture

Studio founded by Pierre Schneider and François Wunschel

1024 Architecture specializes in immersive installations blending architecture and audiovisual performances. Their work spans urban environments and exhibitions, both in France and internationally.

As the Festival’s opening act, the collective takes over the stage and the dome of the Planetarium for a sensory experience.

Combining architecture with quantum field theories and the sci-fi-inspired dimensions of space-time, Space XY creates a visual encounter between Dyson’s sphere and a space station. This real-time generative live performance debuted at Syllepse 360 during the Mapping Festival in Geneva.

The evening will also feature a sneak preview of

select 360° works from the Festival.

Duration: about 1 hour

INTERACTIVE PERFORMANCE

Conte d'un futur commun

On stage, a storyteller, a musician, and an illustrator come together. Conte d'un futur commun explores, in a collective manner, a desirable future and the ways to achieve it. This participatory show allows the audience to engage with the story through their smartphones and voices, much like a video game. The narrative unfolds as a collective improvisation, where each participant can, at any time, steer it in a new direction, disrupt it, expand it, or reimagine it.

With: Louis Clément, Delphine Descombin, Yovan Girard, Maxime Hurdequint, and Maxime Touroute

Production: AADN – Digital Arts & Culture in Lyon

Co-production: Vaulx-en-Velin Planetarium, Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie Paris Planetarium, Stereolux, Nantes Planetarium, Antipodes association, Pays d’Art et d’Histoire between Cluny and Tournus

WORKSHOPS

Creating Immersive Works under the Dome

Presentation on Sunday, March 24, during the 5:00 PM session at the Planetarium.

Under the guidance of new media artist Kelit Raynaud, about fifteen students from the DNMADE Num 3 program at the École Estienne will create immersive dome artworks in less than two days. The sequences produced will be presented during the Sunday, March 24, 5:00 PM session.

The École Estienne will also be well represented throughout the festival. Over the course of a year, Master 2 DCN students and Bachelor 3 DNMADE students have worked on immersive sequences. This “Passages under Domes” work will greet you at the beginning of each session in the room.

• Compositions, Orchestration & Mixing: Thinking Music in an Immersive Environment

Presentation on Saturday, March 23, at 4:00 PM with composer Ghislain Leclant

Location: Sound Studio at the Carrefour Numérique, free access subject to availability.

What are the challenges of composition in an immersive environment?

Are there specificities in 5.1 sound recording?

Using an audiovisual sequence from one of the Planetarium’s films, this workshop will demonstrate the movement of sound in space and the importance of mixing.

Ghislain Leclant has composed over twenty scores for both fiction and documentary films. Between France and Canada, his work blends orchestral and electronic music with new media. He has notably created for Moment Factory, National Geographic, and the Société des Arts Technologiques, for the Montreal and Paris Planetariums (The Lights of the Night & The Sky in the Middle Ages).
